First Annual Blood Drive

On Saturday, March 4, we came together as a community to express our values of caring and resilience at our first-ever PKS Red Cross Blood Drive. In honor of our former Head of School Lee Drolet’s daughter, children talked about the importance of giving blood, encouraged adults to donate, and even signed up to volunteer at the blood drive themselves!

9th Annual PKS Chinese New Year Celebration

It’s 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4. Dozens of parent volunteers are buzzing around campus, rushing to put up the final decorations for the daylong celebration. Photo booth props are laid out to the sound of the band tuning their instruments, a string of flags is pinned up under the main tent, and Master Leo’s lion costumes sit waiting to be brought to life.

PKS Campus Master Plan Update

Concurrent with the ongoing Rectory renovation project, the PKS Master Plan team has recently kicked off the architectural schematic design work for the new Front and Back buildings that will surround the main campus courtyard. We look forward to sharing these designs in the coming months.

Technology at PKS

Technology is the Bay Area’s signature industry, but at PKS, technology takes its cues from our educational mission, philosophy, and organizational needs. Last year, the school embarked on an initiative to build a 3-year technology roadmap. That roadmap started with the PKS mission: “to inspire and empower creative, confident, and engaged global citizens to lead and contribute in a future filled with challenge and possibility.”

Formal Lunch

On a typical day, every student at PKS brings or buys their own lunch, and each student brings their own culinary and cultural traditions to the table. About four years ago, a PKS parent saw a golden opportunity for learning and sharing. Could we create a regular occasion to share family traditions with classmates? How would students react to sitting down together for a joint “Formal Lunch” — could they even motivate each other to learn and practice table manners?

Liz and Terence Fung and their three children Mia, 7 (second grade), Ashton, 5 (kindergarten), and Camryn, 4 (preschool), are Noe Valley residents who have been at PKS for three years. We caught up with the couple to talk about life with three kids (!) and being a PKS family.

Parents Night Out

On Saturday night, PKS families gathered under the big tent for Parents Night Out (PNO), our annual excuse to spend some time at school without the kids. Normally, the tent is a boisterous place, with simultaneous basketball and soccer games alongside tag, jump rope, and other fast-paced activities. For PNO, it’s transformed by creative parents into a elegant nightspot, complete with Chinese lanterns, holiday lights, decorative saplings, quality wines, a whole pig, and made-to-order waffles.
