Elementary School Admissions
We look forward to getting to know you. If you have not done so already, please fill out our admissions inquiry form. Our elementary school admissions process has six required steps that begin in September of each year.
Kindergarten applicants do not require any Mandarin to apply. We will consider elementary applicants with sufficient Mandarin reading/writing and speaking skills to join a current class.
Process and Timeline
1. Attend an Information Session.
This event will provide you with a complete introduction to the school campus and our practices and philosophy. Attending an information session is a required part of the admissions process. If you previously attended an information session, you do not need to attend another one. This session is for adults only. Sessions run from the end of September 2017 through January.
2. Submit the Online Application.
The online application, including a $100 fee, must be submitted by January 11, 2018, at 10:00am (Pacific time). Please call or email the admissions office if you are experiencing hardships paying the fee. We suggest applying early to have your choice of dates for the student class visit, student interview, and parent interview. The online application is due January 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. PST.
3. Sign Up for an Assessment.
For Kindergarten applicants:
The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment is a 60-minute, one-on-one meeting between the child and an independent child development consultant at our school. The assessment will allow the school to better understand each child’s academic, physical, and socio-emotional strengths. We encourage parents to schedule the parent interview and elementary school readiness assessment at the same time if possible. Assessments will be held at PKS from the end January through early February.
For Grade 1-5 applicants:
Please call or email the admissions office for more information on your child's individualized Mandarin, math and reading assessments. Assessments dates are flexible and will be held in January and February.
4. Attend the Classroom Simulation.
Classroom simulations provide an opportunity for your child to meet and interact with our teachers and other similar age students in a classroom setting. The simulation is mandatory for admissions and will take place on Saturday morning January 20, 2018. Once you have submitted an application online, you will receive an email with instructions on how to sign up online the classroom simulation.
5. Sign up for a Parent Interview.
The parent interview is a 30-minute meeting with the Director of Admissions, and it gives us a chance to meet with prospective parents individually. Once you have submitted an application, you will receive an email with instructions on how to sign up online for a parent interview. Parent interviews are held October-February.
6. Submit a Confidential Evaluation Form and Student Records Release Form From your Child’s Current School.
